I have a 2003 Regal Session V-drive wakeboard boat that I am removing the engine from so that I can have it remanufactured. The engine is a 6.2 Mercuiser MX MPI.

I would much appreciate any advice from someone that has done this work before and could advise me on the best way to remove the engine. The way I see it is I have 5 options, see below (Also, I have pictures attached showing these locations to give a visual):

1. Remove entire engine and v-drive in one assembly from boat by unbolting all engine and trans mounts and uncoupling the v-drive from the prop shaft
2. Unbolt the engine from the bellhousing, leaving the trans/v-drive (not sure is these two are one in the same or not...please correct me here)
3. Unbolt the engine and bellhousing from the trans/v-drive
4. Unbolt the trans/v-drive in shown location 4
5. Unbolt the trans/v-drive in shown location 5

Any help is much appreciated!

Personally, I have pulled then by dis-connecting the prop shaft and taking engine and trans as one unit. Easier to service everything plus its easier to loosen up the engine mounting nuts to do the realignment when you re-install it.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking this would be easier myself. When I go to reinstall (as I haven't done this before) is it just a matter of getting a dial indicator and dialing in the prop shaft somehow and make sure it's not binding?

Pull as one unit is best. You don't use a dial indicator for realignment, you use feeler gauges. Put the assembly back in and the alignment of the 2 faces cannot be out more then .003 of an inch. You van put the bolts on the flange faces but do not tighten more then finger tight. If you do need to tighten more then finger tight to get them close together, loosen after they come together and rotate shaft.

Can provide more info but fix what you have and ask after you reinstall for further info
