Please help. Trying to remove the cylinder cap (seems plastic ) on my trailer. Seems like the cap just wants to break or bend. Are these threaded on or just pushed on. Any tips on removing it? Trailer is a 1998 Prestige and I just purchased the boat. I have attached a pic. Thanks to anyone that can help!!!

I'd use channel lock pliers. Grab the hex as far down as you can, then turn COUNTER clockwise slowly.

On second thought,I'd try to grab the outer most edge[round part] with channel locks first.[You might scrape up the outer edge, but I don't think it will break that way] If you do manage to get it off without breaking it,don't torque it on too tight.

I use a regular ratchet and socket on mine, due to it being sunk into a cavity that I can't get an adjustible into. If someone put it in real tight, they can be stubborn to get out sometimes, but have to come out to check fluid level. That looks just like the Titan/Dico 10 one that I have and it threads in. Get it out and if it breaks, then get it all out and replace it. Should not use anything on threads, as it'll contaminate the brake fluid.

Thank you both for your response. I ended up finding a socket large enough and it came right off. The plastic was certainly flimsy using an adjustable wrench.

I appreciate it

Glad you worked it out. Now you can check up on the brake fluid on a regular basis, making the cap removal easier.

I would also try to remove some of the paint on the cap and surrounding the threads, it will come off soon anyways due to the brake fluid. typically they arent painted, so if you can get some away from that area(with plug in) then the chances of paint falling into the fluid will be lessened.
