I've seen many, many boating posts about removing them with heat gun and PLASTIC putty knife, followed by acetone or goo-off to do the job on gel coat.

What is easist, proven and DOES NO HARM process for use on pontoon boat's painted aluminum panels? This boat has wave (corrugated) structure under the numbers if that changes the process.

Thanks, Ed

There really is no "easy" way to get stickers off, they are stickers and they stick, it is there job.

Heat and pikcing is the best way, I don't know that I would even use a plastic scraper as it could still leave marks, just pick them with your fingers, if you are really lucky they will coime off in one peice.

I have had good luck with rubbing alcohol and a rag, you have to clean it 2-3 times but it gets it off and it won't hurt your paint.

I would try a hair dryer on the highest setting, or even better, one of the cheap

clamp lights that have the round reflector shield, held close to the letters for a while, instead of a heat gun.
The hair dryer or the light bulb are less prone to damaging your paint!
A 60-75 watt bulb will give plenty of heat when held close to the work. I know this from clamping one to the hood of the car to work on it in the winter. Besides giving light to see, it actually helps me keep warm!

Once you get the sticker off, I have found that WD-40 works wonders on getting the sticky goo off. Just spray a little on and use your finger to work it in...You can tell when the goo has dissolved and then wipe it off..A little soap and water removes the oily residue and it does not harm the paint.

They sell an eraser that you place on the end of a drill and it takes the decal with the glue right off and does not hurt the boat.

This works great of the decals are old and wants to come off in pieces. If they are pretty new you can just pull them off and use goo gone or enamel reducer / laguor thinner to remove the glue.

NOTE! If you boat is painted and not Gel Coat colored I would use the goo gone and not the reducer just to be safe. If it is Gel then it will not hurt it.
