VP SX-A 1.60 drive. Removed the drive to replace drive bellows and perform general maintenance. When putting the drive back on and attaching the shift cable, the threaded cube barely has room on the cable to thread on. What I mean by that is, with the control and drive both in neutral, the end of the cable barely extends past the shift bracket. So to align the cube with the hole in the shift bracket, it is practically hanging off the end of the shift cable. When removing the drive, I don't remember it being this way.
Now, shifting into forward gear is normal and quiet, but shifting into reverse is a noticeably lounder clunk. Runs fine in both gears. Idle is about 700rpm. The control is pretty stiff throughout the rpm range, but much smoother out of gear, so I think its time for a new cable anyways. Just trying to figure out what could have changed to cause the cable to seem that much shorter, and why this would cause so much more noise while shifting only into reverse. Thanks.
