If you are talking about the shaft that goes from the outdrive through the gimbel bearing into the coupler (bolted to the flywheel). It should have come out when you pulled thy outdrive. If not for whatever reason, give it a pull from the outdrive side.It may stick a little, its been in there for 20 years.

Re: remove outdrive housing from gimble ring

So I go to a dealer and buy or borrow a 12 point
external socket. Does the hinge pin screw in
through the gimble bearing and gimble ring into
the upper housing? Standard right hand threads?
Sorry to bug you with all this detail.

Re: remove outdrive housing from gimble ring

Got a 12 point adapter and pulled the hinge pins.
Removed the upper outdrive housing.
Now I need to remove the two pins at 12:00 and
6:00 that hold the gimble ring in the housing.
Is the pin at the bottom screwed in or tapered?
If screwed in there's not much of a slot for
removal is there. Top pin, which is attached to
the steering arm appears to be pressed into the
gimbel ring. Is that correct?
