My friend with the Sundancer 250 is getting his new outdrive installed on Saturday and wants the boat in the water. At my recommendation we want to pull the exhaust elbows from the manifolds to inspect since we do not know how old they are. I already made him return the non OE gaskets and get the right ones. Do to a time constraint of my partner in crime Don we may not be able to assemble the drive and install it and do the manifolds this Saturday. So can he put the boat in the water and remove the elbows while the boat is in the water next weekend? My Sundancer (same model) with 7.4L has 3 inch risers between the manifold and elbow his does not. I don't want to sink his boat but also don't want to hold him up from getting her out of the driveway. Plus both Don and I both have our own boats to get ready for the water. As always information is greatly appreciated.

As long as the exhaust y tube is higher than the level of the water.

Forgot to mention it has a 5.7L alpha one combo 1989 vintage I believe original to the boat. I have the serial # number if anyone thinks it is relevant I will find it.

If you are able to leave the rubber hose on from the riser to the y tube, that buys you a little more height. That is actually more than likely the best way anyway.

Measuring is good... but is subject to interpretation and guesswork on where the water level is. Here's a better way to know exactly where the water level is:
