Large channel lock pliers or a hammer and a screwdriver (or a blunt chisel). It only has to move about a 1/2" at most befor it is in your hand and then when you re-install it use a block of wood or a plastic mallet.

Bob

I prefer to use "slip joint water pump pliers". Adjust so the jaws are parallel to the dust cap body, grab hold and rock it out. There is a special tool which looks like ice tongs.
If you don't have a set, use a cold chisel and gently tap all around where the dust cap meets the hub. Don't try to get it all at once, Just a little at a time all around.
:)

Yeah dont worry about ruining it besides you would be better off buying a set of bearing buddies for it ( as long as its not a spindle lube system ) they dont recommend bearing buddy for those. If it hasnt been serviced in years might want to check the condition of the bearings and repack/replace as needed which is what i figure you are trying to do if you can get that cap off.

If using hammer & chisel approach, spin the wheel or move chisel around to different sides so you're not hitting from same side/angle.

BL...
