I have a 1980 40 HP Merc Thunderbolt. Came on boat I bought last year. Went to do spring maintenance and realized I have no idea how to get cover off. There is a panel in the front with a lever, once you remove that you are looking at two latches that hold a cowling band on that goes around the motor. How do you release these two latches that hold the band? Must have spent an hour on it today, has me baffled. Thanks.

pull, there is an end with a little hook on it. Look oppsite this side and you will see a flat looking piece pull up on this. It is a cam style lock.

Re: Remove Cover

Thanks. Clearly you are much smarter than I am. It was so easy. The cam style lock was the clue. You are a scholar and gentleman. By the way my Dad was a Petty Officer First Class in WW2 on the USS Anthony. Thank you for serving our country.

Re: Remove Cover

Thank you sir, but the rank on here is just for the number of post that you have made. On the other hand I do come from a military household, my dad is retired from the USMC.
