Removal of control/alarm unit from Merc 150HP

I have just removed the oil injection from my Merc XR2 150HP. Some of the instructions I received was that the control/alarm module should also be disconnected and removed.

Obviously I have disconnected the bullet fittings for the oil level sensor from the small header tank and the sensor from the oil pump as I removed the oil injection system. However, this still leaves 3 wires connected on the control/alarm module - black earth wire and two others (purple and green wire from what I can remember).

The black wire is connected to the motor body while the other two appear to go to the switch units.

Can I safely disconnect these three wires and remove the control/alarm module from the engine??

Any suggestions - I dont see much point in having surplus equipment attached to the engine if I don't need it.

Yep. Purple is power. green is signal from a switchbox. Just cut, unscrew, jackhammer, or otherwise remove them.

Thanx for that - just heading down to the boat to remove it now. One more piece of surplus equipment removed :)))

Well I suppose in yer case. It fascinates me, however that people who don't fully understand how something works will call it names, like surplus.:D

Its very simple, If its not used then its surplus - weight costs speed so dump the weight :)).

To be honest there was all sorts of "surplus" equipment and fittings on the boat when I bought it so have been steadily been removing them over the assorted winter lay-up periods. The oil injection has been on the cards for a while, just been slow getting around to it.

Took 'her' out yesterday, engine ran great with the pre-mix. Weather was good for a change (at least for Scotland!!) so even managed a ski.

My biggest problem is that I have almost finished this boat - will be looking for a new project soon.................
