removable post guideons?

I have the original matching Escort Trailer for my 1983 Bayliner Capri 1600. If it wasn't in such good shape (boat and trailer always garaged by the previous owner and present owner), I'd get a new trailer.

The challenge I have is two fold:
1. The trailer beams are too inset for the Post guideons that I've seen. The widest they'll accomodate from the trailer beam to just past the width of the boat is 16". I need almost 30" for the post attachment to be 90 degrees to the side of the boat, at least 26" for angled ones.

2. I need them removable so that I can fit the trailer and boat in my garage while still having room for the car next to it.

I suppose I can have a length of boxed steel welded on both sides so that I have a step and a place to attach the guideons.

Any other ideas?

Thanx,

Al

I bought guide ons from Ve-Ve Inc. They had several types that may work for your application.

U-bolt a round or square tube under or on top of the frame going as wide as you want.
Then insert the guide on and cross drill so they end up like your reciever hitch.

Re: removable post guideons?

Thanks for the info.

Decided to buy the $95 Tie-Down product found at Bass Pro Shops (www.tiedown.com Hull Sav'r 48" Part #86200). It's not on the BP website, but it's in their catalogue. I would have spent almost as much to do it myself, plus all the time and it would have looked home made.

It's a galvanized, square tube design with anchor plates and u-bolts, urethane looking pads and 48" guide ons. There is an internal, 24" post that the PVC poles slide on to for strength. I installed the arms just behind the trailer lights at the end of the main beams. I'll still need to get a 12" sleeve extension from my local trailer shop to give me the necessary width. I'll fasten the vertical posts to the sleeve with the hardware from the kit. I'll drill the sleeve and install pull out pins so that I can remove the whole set-up, save the arms, when I but the boat back in my garage.

I'm also planning to put removable lights at the top of my guide-ons similar to the battery operated puck lights that you push down to turn on and off. Velcro should be all that's needed. I disconnect my trailer lights when I'm dunking the trailer.

Best to find a fully supported guide-on, that's what I bought. Good luck with anything made or sold by Tie Down. (JMHO)
