Remounting a ski ladder... What would you do.

My Glastron has this really cool ladder at the back for you to climb up with. The problem is that one of my really fat friends broke it off. Pull the screws right out of the hull. Now the girl is almost thirty so I guess it was bound to happen. So my questions is how would you go about remounting? I have filled the holes with two part epoxy, and I cannot get to the back of the area where it is mounted. Would you move it up and inch or so and get into some new wood?

I have a cool ladder setup as well, but since I am "husky" (code for FAT-***! - :D ) I just leave it for looks and use a ladder that mounts on the gunwhale.

Just sayin'......

I'm a big guy as well, and the gunwhale ladder in the link above is what I use. Be careful though - I actually had a fat chick break the little legs that come on the ladder, so I just took them off and padded the rung that touches the boat with athletic tape.

My biggest problem with factory ladders is that they are simply too short. I'm 6'5", and I have real trouble getting a leg on most factory ladders.

My boat actually has mounts for a rear ladder that are identical to the stern eyes, so nice and heavy-duty. I guess if a ladder was attached there it would just hang, but I don't know if anything ever came factory on my boat for it or not.

Thanks for the replys. My gunwhale is too wide for one of those ladders. I have purchased three and nothing works.

Can you drill all the way through to the inside and access the inside to put a bolt through with a nut without wrecking the interior. If so, put a plate on the inside for strength and remember to inject sealer with the bolt.

+1

I am also large in the midsection (320#), and yesterday I pulled one of the mounting screws for the swim platform out of the back of my Imperial. (not totally my fault, PO used 3/8" long screws to hold it, and predrilled almost the total diameter of the threads (ok, its my fault, im a fat***)) so all screws that were being held in tension, I drilled out and replaced with 1/4"x2" stainless bolts backed with fender washers right through the transom. Seal it up good with 5200, and it will be good to go. If it fails on me again in the same way, I got bigger problems to worry about than a busted swim platform
