Remote throttle/shifter + steering for 15HP tiller steer

I bought a nice 1987 15HP 2-stroke (model # 15SH) that I'd like to convert to remote throttle/steer.

I got lucky on eBay and found a new-old-stock "remote control attachment assembly" part # 6E7-48501-50 and installed it. So now I have all the linkages for throttle and shifting ready for cables on the motor side.

All the throttle/shifter control boxes I seem to find seem to be for newer motors. Mine is pull-start, manual trim, so as far as I know I just need wires for the kill switch. Not sure which box I need to search for, and I'm curious about steering as well, I don't see where the support tube for the steering cable attaches on this motor.

Thanks for any help!

can you post a pic of what you have as there are a couple of different shift/throttle assembly..

you may have to use push/ pull cable steering, that involves old school wheel and spring stuff .

Your motor being a tiller model doesn't have a tilt tube for the steering cable to go through.

There used to be a model the bolts to the transom and then grabs the motor handle. I see you have the hole at the end of the carting handle.

Could find the whole kit but it must be out there. Here is the bracket that bolts to the transom.

Here is a better picture of the concept.

Gotcha. Interesting that looking through all the variants of the 87 9.9/15s I couldn't find the tilt tube even on the electric start models. Those same parts diagrams are where I got the part # for the remote control kit for the shifter/throttle. Maybe just all the parts diagrams that are still available today just don't show them. I managed to get the transom mount separated from the bracket. I'm half tempted to size up a tilt tube and the just drill everything out to fit it and put it in place of the existing bolt. Right now it just uses a steel bolt (see the rust lol) and the actual pivoting occurs on these cone-shaped bushings. seems everything could be enlarged to fit a tube, although I don't know the outer diameter of one.

Dumb question, why does it look like that tube pivots? Don't I want the tube to remain stationary while the linkage handles any movement at the connection at the carry handle?
I believe it locks down once you have it adjusted but it's been a long time since I played with one.

Had one years ago on a 25 HP Johnson.
