1984 Mercruiser 140, alpha one gen1. Shift cable has been replaced and used Permatex Thread sealer.

Only when in water, I have to shove the remote into reverse. Works flawlessly on muffs.

Shift cable has been replaced and when in water, I’ve removed the shift cable from the bracket and can move the cable to get in and out of gear without problem.

I’ve also lubed the cables coming from the remote on both ends which made a bit of a difference I could tell when on muffs.

USPS just dropped off my new remote cables, so I’ll be replacing those today. Any other thoughts as to what could be causing this jam?

the throttle cable of the engine of the top barrel , did the turns 2 turns CW/CCW then the prop is out of the water and the hands are doing the hands of the propeller very strong ..... left fwd /neutral/and the right reverse ...
also the outdrive shift shaft is fwd and the barrel center and the stud 6 inches ..

Shift interrupt switch should not engage going into gear, only when coming out of gear into neutral

Possible causes are worn/binding lower cable, cables out of adjustment, improper lower cable routing, worn/binding shift system linkages

With the engine off shift into reverse full throttle, the roller should still be in the center of the “V”. If not then look for the ACHRIS tutorial video on this site which should help you.
