Remote control question

[PPP]

Recently aquired a boat with '82 MERCURY 80 HP motor. The tilt/trim reservoir is full of fluid. The up/down switch lowers but will not raise the motor. Depressing the square switch, below the up/down switch, raises the motor. I do not have a manual yet. Will someone please explain to me how this set-up works and why I can't lower the motor by pressing the "down" switch.

Your post self-contradicts. The up/down toggle switch lowers the motor, but will not raise it, right? If so, the trim limit switch is bad. They go bad all the time. You may bypass it and use the toggle switch to raise and lower the motor, if you want.
