i'm at a loss. i just worked for hours two days ago trying to repair a broken warm-up lever on the remote controls for a 85 30hp seahorse.
yesterday i spent hours taking a power pilot out of an old boat to use to replace mine.
today i spent hours and money wiring a new switch into the controls.
i finally got it on and installed in my boat and then when i was trying to synchronize everything the controls jammed and the warm-up lever seems to have broken on this box too.
it's a power pilot remote box. the warm-up lever doesn't seem to be doing anything on the inside when i take it apart.
here's a diagram i found:

part 23 looks like it has a bearing on the front of it that connects to the warmup lever? i don't see that anywhere and i didn't see it fall out. from the inside you can see the end of the screw down in the shaft that connects the warmup lever. on part 23 there is only a screw holding on the control cable arm. beside that is a hole that goes around the shaft that lever is screwed into.

does anyone have any idea what this problem might be?
please help. i've got to get my boat in the water.

Re: remote control power pilot help. desperate.

i just went to the garage to look at it again.
the part #23 has a bolt attached to it that goes through the shell and the lever screws into it. that bolt was in the shell when i took it off. could it have broken off 23? is the lever supposed to rotate 23? i found a washer that may have been b/t them(the washer has violin f-hole lines etched into it if that means anything)...i can't figure out how they were attached.

The following applies ONLY if you have the identical control box as you've pictured above. Note that the picture would be better fitted
if you would hold the pixel width down to 600. Something to consider in the future.

Part 23 has a shoulder bearing on both sides of it which has a threaded center for the attaching screws to connect the related items
to it. If those threaded shoulder bearings have been broken off somehow, you'll need to purchase that #23 part.

For the warm up lever to function properly, you need 2 #48 (318277) Screws, 2 #40 Washers (318228), 2 #53 Bushings (318317),
1 #60 roller (318362), 1 #23 Lever Link (385669), 1 #67 Handle (385642), assuming everything else is present in that control box.

can you recommend a newer control box for around $100?
i think i need to get a newer one if things are breaking.

There is a later model Evinrude/Johnson control box that looks almost
identical to the one pictured but the warm up lever is on top of it instead of
on the side. This would be a better choice.

ha...that's the one that was one there before and broke. the warm up lever kept popping up and jamming the controls.

i think i might just take it to a mechanic...what would you charge to install a control box and synchronize the cables? i'm trying to figure out if i should do it myself and order a box or just take it to someone that probably has some in stock.
