Last weekend my brother was launching his boat. He usually covers his boat and leaves the plug in all of the time. Well his cover collapsed and allowed a bunch of rain water into the boat. He let it drain for a few days and wrote himself several notes so he would remember the plug.
Well he got to the boat launch and proudly installs the plug and launches the boat. His wife tells him when he returns from parking the truck that she sees water in the boat. Mind you he has a nice carpeted deck so when she saw the water it already had several inches in the boat. Knowing that he remembered the plug he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He waded into the water and reached down figureing the plug came out some how and planned to jam something in to stop it untill he could get the boat back onto the trailer. He found the drain hole and no plug and then felt the plug in the next hole over. He removed the plug from his livewell drain hole and placed it into the correct hole.
He was lucky that his bilge pump was able to get the water out after a while and did not need to take it out to drain it as the launch was crowded.
The other very lucky thing that happened is that for all future launches he has his wife to remind him to make sure the plug is in and in the right hole.
