Has any one had real experience with the remanufactured 3.0/140 mercruiser engines. Fitting and long term use of them .I am only wary as I have had some bad experience with the china remanufactured hilux engines.

May I suggest you use some punctuation in your post, as it's just too hard to read. Most folk here will just skip over something like this.... I had to read it 4 times to understand what you're trying to say...

For $1750, your mechanic can purchase a brand new GM 3.0 longblock through Flagship Marine Engines with no core charge. Why would you do anything else?

... as I am in Australia.

 You're screwed....

There are no car makers here who use that engine, and we (Australia) doesn't even import any. Mercury Australia are wa..ers and will charge you an arm and the use of both legs for a new short motor. Best you can hope for is to find an online company who'll ship to you. I would start with Performance Product Technologies. Use the Australian tax office website to calculate the import tax and GST. I looked into a complete 4.3MPI a year or so back. To buy here (Australia) would have cost me $22,000; including freight, import and GST, landed in Fremantle from PPT would have been $12,700. There would have been no warranty, but at that saving who cares! Also the warranty I got from the last engine I purchased in Australia wasn't worth the toilet paper it was printed on... They screwed me, but good, over that one!

Where in Aust are you?

I'm on the gold coast Queensland. Ebay lists the remanufactured 3.0 as $3990 from a guy in Sydney or alternately from u.s.a 2500 and 500 freight and what ever duty on top, plus 150 for the different flywheel ect. Although has anyone used one of these "vortex 3000's " yet.

These engines from flagship are the remanufactured engines NOT genuine gm so back to the original question has anyone had any long term experience with these engines

Re: remanufactured 3.0 good/bad

mate you paid to much for your 4.3

in 2003 i repowered my 22 footer with a brand new 4.3 gxi and duo props (Volvo) installed with all new gauges controls and stainless props it only cost $22,000

i would be contacting Mercruiser Australia if you want a new motor and see what they can do before i risked a remanafactured engine

give them a call, what have you got to loose

Michigan Motorz say they ship world wide. New 3.0 $2,099, bought one in 07 these are brand new gm block and such. Does not include the fuel pump, dist, and manifold. Buy a new dist kit for about $100.
Not sure what your import tax is in Australia. I was not going to risk a rebuild when I could buy new.

Import duty is 10% of the cost of the item including freight. So if the freight is $500, then the duty will be 10% of (2,099+500)=$260.. Item total landed cost would be $2859....

Re: remanufactured 3.0 good/bad

..Crazy how a $2000 engine turns into a $3000 engine....

We have a socialist government (same as your democrats) at the moment (GOD I hope that changes at the next election!) who believe the way to improve the country is to take money from hard working people and give it to those less willing to work.... I'm getting into a position of being able to turn my back on Australia and move somewhere else. I will be doing that as soon as possible! My last paycheck was taxed at 40%!!!!
