"Factory Tested" Remaned Carb. Yea right!!!!

Just installed a remaned carb on a OMC 2.3 liter engine. The engine cranked and ran fine after a little finess and a shot of gas down the throat. Wouldnt ya know it, the accelerator pump does not work.

Who tested this carb? I wish I new his name. Incompitant bassturd. Oh yea, they'll warranty it, just box it up and send it back (on my dime). Then once they get it and check it out then they'll send out another "Factory Tested" carb. Probably tested by the same sombeach that tested the first one I got. aaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

I once had a neighbor that invested a bunch of money in starter/alternator rebuilding equipment. Didn't last long as he didn't know a starter from an alternator. Maybe the same guy!!

Yea same here....Thats what perssis me off so. This boat came to me with an automotive carb, worn throttle plate shaft, and looked like salt water had been sitting in it for a year or so. This was the "Easy Way Out". :p

But I will fix this "Factory Tested" remaned.

Oh great!

Please don't tell us it came from these guys http://www.marinecarburetor.com/index.html

I was going to get one of theirs. They claim to flow test them AND engine test them. http://www.marinecarburetor.com/warranty.htm

I have rebuilt MANY carbs over the years. but I want to spend my time doing other things.....

Now maybe I should just do it myself?

Cheers!

Rick

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

It didnt come from there.

I wont say where it came from because the seller is simply a dealer and I know they offer other rebuilders carbs also, so.......Ill just void the warranty and fix this one instead of killing two + weeks waiting

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

Alright,,,,,,I got-er-done.

Forgot to mention before that the electric choke didn't work either.

The accelerator pump didn't work because they left out the pump check ball. Found one in my carb parts box.

Choke didn't work because of no ground. They installed the paper gasket between the electric heating element and the choke housing.

 Saaaad

Reel Poor
I bought a kit to rebuild my mercarb - the pump check ball was included in the kit but no retainer or strainer. How did you keep the ball in place without gas pouring out?

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

Carb kits are meant to fit more than one style of carb. The Mercarb has no check ball below the accel pump. The ball is located under the T bar and below the spring. Only some of the older
rodchesters have the check ball under the plunger held in place by a wire ring.

This was an older rodchester carb. The check ball is under the pump and is held in place by the pump return spring.

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

Why don't you send it back, get a refund, and order a new one or one from another company.
You may fix the obvious now, but later on???? If you mess with it, it's yours.

Re: Remaned Carb Rant!!!!!

I wasted 3 years & lots of money on "Re-buil...oh I'm sorry "re-manufactured" Quadrajets. Finally gave up & installed a BRAND NEW Edelbrock. Not a glitch since! (2 years)I have a #3 washtub full of Quadrajets that ran fine for awhile until corrosion starts in the same place (in the float bowl)that was corroded before it was rebui...re-manufactured.
Spend the money on a NEW Holley or Edelbrock. It will save much sorrow & down time in the long run!
Gene
