Reman Recommendation?

We just bought our first boat at a greatly discounted price knowing it had a cracked block. It has a 2001 Vortec 5.0 Volvo Penta. I'd like to replace it with a 5.7. Any input on that? Also, I'm looking at Rapido for a reman long block. Anyone know of any better bang-for-your-buck? Thanks!

Re: Reman Recommendation?

I purchased a 5.7 long block from Rapidos 2 years ago. I called some of the other reman companies out there, but Rapidos took the time to answer all of my questions. The price was right and the engine was sitting in front of my garage 3 days after I ordered it. I have been rebuilding SBC engines for a long time and I just couldn't beat the price of Rapidos. Heck some machine shop bills Ive acquired in past rebuilds have been more expensive than the cost of this reman...

Thanks Guys.
Before you spend the money, be aware that changing to a 5.7 will require reprogramming of the ECM and with Volvo that is not an easy thing to do.
Does this still apply even though mine is not injected?

I purchased and installed a reman long block from Rapido last fall. If you are upgrading, dont forget that the long blocks dont come with any sheet metal. The other problem I ran into was when I ordered the engine, was the oil dipstick. When they say passenger side, they are talking about passenger side on a truck, not a boat. Keep that in mind.
