I purchased a 2000 Evinrude Fitch motor on 1-18-2000 and at the time the reason I bought the motor over Mercury or Yamaha was Evinrude was offering a 2 year warranty as to only a 1 year from the other two.
Has anyone heard of any class action lawsuites aginst Evindude for breach of Warranty or anything like this.
Thanks,
Clyde Jeffers
LeftTurns@aol.com

Re: Remaining warranty on Evinrude motors

Clyde, OMC--which used to make Evinrude--filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late December. There's a real question of whether your warranty's any good. Recommend you check with your dealer and check the recreational boating web site (rbbi.com) for info on OMC bankruptcy. Good luck...Nickle

Re: Remaining warranty on Evinrude motors

Our take is that after banqruptcy resolution that commences early Feb., no warranty claims will be processed in the transition. Parts to dealers are strictly prepaid money orders (no COD's, no billing, no credit cards) Parts are sent as is with no warranty. Until someone picks up the Johnson, Evinrude division (one of the major money loser divisions) all warranties are null. The next prospective owner of the division that concerns your engine and parts (if in fact the new owner does not negotiate partial purchases within the division or reorganizes it) will pick up the business that should include warranties (the courts may force this issue). We must wait. The latest OMC engines are good ones with millions of dollars of research and tooling invested in them. Let's hope for a great owner like Penske ( who almost bought them earlier)

Re: Remaining warranty on Evinrude motors

I am very interested in this one. In November I purchased (2) 2001 Evinrude 225 HP Ficht motors to repower my 27 Whaler. The installation and rigging was completed by the end of December, and one of the motors wont run. The dealer advises me that it is a faulty ECM(computer). The dealer is telling me that due to OMC's situation I have no warranties on my new motors that I have paid over $30,000 for, and they have not even been in the water. I am anxious to hear if anyone has any suggestions. I am not really too happy about having to purchase a warranty from a third party, and i'm not sure if they would cover a motor that has a defect straight from the factory.
