Before I buy a mid 1980s 2hp Evinrude, does anyone know their reliability? I am need of a light motor that I plan to take in the backwaters with a car top boat. I do not need speed or power but need it to be reliable. Evinrude has a good reputation in the 1980s and I was just wondering if that reputation extends to their smallest motor.

I am tempted to get this motor because of the 25 pound weight. I am not familiar with spark drive pins. What are they?

Thanks much for the clarification and thanks for the reminder on the spare drive pin. Where I would be using this motor is on the nature coast of Florida and shallow water is the norm as is broken lower units.

Agree, a good motor but don't expect to get anywhere fast !!!
A motor is only as good as it's previous owners care and maintenance. Check it out before parting with the money.
