Read in an older Clymers manual (one for through 1990 evinrudes) that the use of "gasahol", as they put it, may result in carbs having to be re jetted to create a richer mixture. My motor is a 1996 88 Special. I am getting a OEM manual for my motor. This manual was for a friends 60hp. Just wondering. Getting ready to clean my carbs and if I need to look into this I will. Their definition of gasahol seems to be exactly what we deal with today, ten percent ethanol. Also it look like we will soon be dealing with higher % ethanol content. Any suggestions?

Re: Rejetting

Here in Minnesota, it's possible to find fuel stations with a 'recreational' pump of non-oxygenated (non-ethanol) fuel. I have one in my town. I gladly spend .50 more/gallon to keep that crap out of anything I fill with a red can. But you are correct in that ethanol has less heat energy/volume than gasoline, so it makes perfect sense that gasohol would run leaner than gasoline, and you couldn't just tweak the needle in a fixed jet carb. Search 'ethanol' in this forum and you'll see evidence of what alcohol does to rubber fuel lines..

Yeah, I know what to do regarding new fuel lines and the like. Just wondering if their was a service bulletin from OMC regarding rejetting mid 90's motors for 10%ethanol. One station here in Wilmington, NC says they have non ethanol fuel but I dont believe it. i will check with the local suppliers to see if they are delivering e-free gas to them

Re: Rejetting

No rejetting is required.

If you think you're getting ethanol when you shouldn't, just check it. Put some in a closed jar and see what happens. Brigg & Stratton makes a kit for about $7 that will show you how much is in the fuel. Not sure if I would trust what anybody from the fuel industry tells me anyway.
