Hi; I bought an old Reinell 2200 and just took it out on a lake last weekend. I was looking for some advice about the following: 1. The old smoked lexan/plexiglass has all kinds of cracks. Does anyone have a good solution for rebuilding the cabin doors and top hatch? 2. I lost the original rudder and as I remember, it wasn't much more than a 1x10x48" piece of board. I made a new one a little bigger, but I was wondering if other owners had made better rudders, and what size/ shape to do so. 3. Internet sources I have seen say this thing has a displacement of 5800 pounds, is that right? I was thinking 3800# or less, does displacement mean just the weight of the thing unloaded, or the volume, or what? Thanks for any help, brand new sailor here.

Replacement plexiglass can be found at suppliers like Fisheries Supply or Defender Marine. Look for a mfg name on the port frame. If custom, there are lots of suppliers of sheet plexiglass. Use a router to cut out the shape you want. Start with your local Yellow Pages, custom sign companies often have sheet plastics and may even do this sort of work.

Email Idasailor and see if they have your rudder pattern.

I probably came across the same info you did, however I saw there was also a 26' model. 5800 lbs is more likely the 26 footer's displacement.

Displacement is the mass of the water pushed aside when the boat is sitting at it's mean waterline. This also figures into buoyancy and capacity. It's probably a bare boat, maybe even a bare hull figure. Look up the term with respect to boats then see how different builders apply it by checking out new boat web pages.

I also have a Reinell 22' 1976. I still have the original rudder and it is fiberglass. If you want some pictures and dimentions email me at 1oreshake4me@gmail.com. You can also buy plexi glass at most marine stores and it's usually pretty easy to cut out with a jig saw after which o0u can form a gasket or seal around the edge with silicone, or one of several different kinds of water proof caulking.
