We will be going to Rehoboth Del. for three days next week and will be staying in a cabin at Big Oaks Campground off Rt#1.

I'm hoping to take the kids out to do some crabing and was hoping someone can recommend a place to launch and perhaps a few places in the bay where we can catch some crabs.

Also, I'm not yet sure if Del requires a boat fishing license and if so how do I obtain one?

Any other helpful advice appreciated.

Re: Rehoboth Del. Boating

Thanks guys,

I'm familiar with the launches between dewey and indian river inlet. However if my sailing days memmory serves me correct, there are quite a few sandbars through there. My boat is a 20 ft polar bay boat and drafts about 12 in. of water. I believe I will end up having to float the boat a ways from the shore before we can get going. The Longneck road access sounds like a good alternative and more accessable from where we will be staying.

Can we catch crabs around the Longneck Rd. access? We will be going in the middle of the week (Mon, Tues, Wed) to avoid the weekend crowd.

Thanks again
Kevin

yeah,, if not ..

try AYC EAT crabs at crab barn on longneck rd or lazy susans on rt 1 past rt 9.. :) ..

the area is silly with ramps.. yeah,, south of dewey , the ramps are 'un-improved' an shallow..

at longneck .. it's the best ramp you'll ever see.. an deep.. but underway,, FOLLOW THE MARKERS..!! not much roon for error..

there's always somebody commin'or goin'.. follow them..

ramp ,, go left.. rehobo bay.. excellent crabbin'.. go right.. indian river ..good for fish an crabs up river..

another good ramp but can't say about the crabs is roosevelt inlet ramp in town lewes..

have a good time..!!

Re: Rehoboth Del. Boating

I just got back today....
Launched from a marina about 2 miles out Rt#24 called the Boat Hole on Love Creek. The crabbing was marginal but the kids had fun.

The Longneck Road access looked nice from the water and will definately be my choice next time when I want to fish the bay.

I'm not used to boating tidal water and running on plane with just 3 ft of water under the boat made me quite nervous. Thanks to the channel markers I didn't do any harm to my lower unit except remove a little paint from the prop.

All in all we had some good family time and I am happy we brought the boat along.
