regulating voltage on classic 50

what's the best way to regulate the voltage down to about 14v on the charging circuit from my merc. 45, (currently reading 17v+, sorry no pun intended). cheers jonah.

If your connections are clean, the battery is in good condition and your volt meter is working right, you can buy a regulater from mercury off a 16 amp. system and install it on your engine

Jonah, You could install a heavy duty 14 V Zener Diode, if you can find one. This will dump excess voltage to ground.

You cannot use a zener diode across the output as a regulator. Without a current limitimg resistor it will fry as soon as you start the motor.

Jonah<br /><br />what you CAN do is to use a motorcycle voltage regulator to do the job. Go to the bike shop in the town centre in Weymouth and ask them (can't remember their name but they are near the library). Their mechanics are pretty good.
