I'm refurbing a 60s 3hp and was changing spark plugs the other day and one stripped out. So I need a new head cover. Must have already been bad before I bought it. Question. Is that part still available? Having trouble finding it. I see used ones on ebay but would like new if available. And when I get one, what is the tightening order and torque. I already have a new head gasket. Thanks for any advice. Metty

Get a helicoil insert instead.

You start with one of the middle bolts then kind of spiral out. I want to say final torque is 15 ft lbs. You may want to wait for someone to confirm or correct me on that. I usually go half on each bolt then do my final torque following the same pattern. Check torque after you have run it.

Pattern looks like this.

4----3

1----2

5----6

Actually 15 ft lbs is way too much. I found a spec that says 60 - 80 in lbs which was from a reliable source on this forum.

Don't use a helicoil. It is steel and doesn't have the same thermal conductivity as the cylinder head.

Us a "TimeSert", which is an alloy sleeve that has the same thermal characteristics as stock.

Or post a want ad on Aomci.org and just buy a good used head, thousands of parts motor out there.

Call Tim's outboard before you mess with it. 218-682-2331. He'll likely have one for WAY less than any heli-coil kit. Quick ship and great prices!!

EDIT: Not wanting to get in trouble here, I deleted my offer to sell. You have a PM instead.
