Re: reeds

well you have to remove the carbuerators and the intake manifold and then the reeds are to come out are you going to replace the reeds and or the reeds and the monutings they mount to the reeds are mounted to a like V shaped piece the reeds just screw off a couple a hours work

Re: reeds

i just bought this 1989 potoon boat and it had a 1982 evinrude 50hp motor. i noticed it idled real rough. but seamed to run fine at high speed. i took it to a boat place in town. first he said it was the carbs.. they needed to be rebuilt. when he got the kit i went down there and he showed me the carbs were full of rust so was the fuel tank and the supply line. so we got new ones. i didnt run any better. so he chexked the fuel pump and it was cracked so he replaced it no difference. now he says its the reeds... i dont know. the bottom cylinder dosent run it has gas, fire the compression check showed 130 lbs

Re: reeds

It could be the reeds but I really doubt it. From what you are saying I take it the motor only idles on one cylinder, but off idle it runs on both. If the reeds are hanging open (or broken) it will be spitting back at idle thru that carb and very obvious. The reeds are real easy to get to, so it's no big deal but I might try swapping the carbs first. Top to bottom -- bottom to top. If the problem follows the carb then............

Good Luck!

Re: reeds

you have dual carbs you might have the fuel lines backwards to them

Re: reeds

Good thought but the fuel line from the pump goes to a "t" and then to each carb. And if the bottom carb wasnt getting any fuel it wouldn't run off idle either.

Any thoughts about the circuit on the bottom carb?
