How can you tell if you have a bad reed valve on one cyl. or a dirty carb. I have a 75 hp. mercury 1994 that when you remove the spark plug cable from the top plug, there is no difference in the rpm|s with a good spark. the other two cyl. are just the opposite as you get a low rpm and the engine almost dies. Any help is appreciated.

Joe, have you done a compression test?

Yeah and I got around 190 on all three cyl.s This was a old compression tester and the # s might be a little high but should be close enough. I had oily gas on the bottom two cyl. but nothing on the top cyl. and these were new plugs.

Sounds like the nr.1 (top) cylinder isn't getting any fuel. I doubt if it's reeds because you'd be getting blow-back through the carb if it was.

c/6

Hooty
