On a inline 3 cylinder 2 stroker Outboard engine that utilizes the circular Reed Block assembly located between the carburator throttle body and the lower crankcase. What force opens the reed valves? Is it mechanically actuated by the crankshaft or opened by the pressure differential between crankcase and atmospheric pressure?
Just wondering
Thanks

when the piston moves UP it creates vacuum and sucks the reed valve OPEN and therefore sucking in fuel mixture into crank-case, and when the piston moves down, it pressurizes the fuel mixture and then it shoots back into the cylinder over and over again. if this is wrong, its at least really close.

So are you saying that a 2-cycle engine's pistons work backwards than a 4 stroke? They combust from the bottom side?

Nope, FP.

Fuel/air is drawn (through the reeds) into the crankcase on the upstroke of the piston.

On the downstroke of the piston that mix is compressed and flows through the bypass and intake ports into the cylinder.

On the next upstroke the mix is compressed again and combusted.

Cool, I've never seen a break-down of a 2-stroke. Thanks PhatMan
