Reed/Leaf Valves

Can faulty reed/leaf valves cause the fuel/oil mixture to seep out of the carbs? Could an overheated engine have caused damage to the valves? After a day on the water I have traces of the fuel/oil mixture seeping down from the lower engine cowl cover onto the mid section. I have checked hoses for leaks and found none, looks like it is coming from the carb throats.

No reed valves will not cause that. What motor do you have.

More likely is the carb float + seats are not sealing. Could be a leaky crankshaft seal as well. You would see that leak under the flywheel.

On your 150 HP 2000 model do you tilt the motor up with fuel in the carburetors ?-----Could be leaky float valves.-----Do you see any fuel leaking from carburetors when you really squeeze the primer bulb?-----Hose from the vapor pump going into the airbox ?

If this is happening when the motor is tilted up, look at the airbox seal or drain hose

I do trailer the boat with motor tilted up slightly and fuel in the bowls. I haven't tried the squeezing of the bulb and checking for leaks yet.

I don't know, I'd guess it is caused mostly by engine tilted. I try to run some/ most/all of the fuel out of the carb when coming in. This can be difficult to "time" but I just yank the fuel hose off when coming in the last ??feet. Leaving the fuel hose connected can cause fuel perkulation from heat

Many of these big motors do not have the hose with a fitting to pull off.
