Red or Black Stator

I have an 84 50hp merc mdl 1050524 ser 6485908. I have read the merc manual for the engine and it refers to either red or black stator. Is there a way to know which stator is being used based on the serial number or is there another way to check? I was hoping to find out before I take the flywheel off.

Look under the flywheel from either side and you can see which color of the black has 4 ign. wires red-red/white-blue-blue/white and the red stator has 2 white/green,green/white
