Hello!

I don’t know a lot about motors. I had a mechanic come out to look at my
Tohatsu Nissan NSF9.8A2
He took off the rectifier told me to get a new one and once I install it will run. I purchased the part.. list ever since. I think I plugged it into the correct connections but it will not start. The wiring is a rats nest. Any recommendations are welcomed! I’ve looked at the wiring diagram still can’t figure it out. Anyone know a Mobile Mechanic in San Diego!? Thx!

The rectifier doesn't affect the ability of the motor to start or run, only its ability to recharge the battery.

Does the electric-start crank the engine? Can you pull-start the motor?

No I’ve never been able to pull start the motor. It’s hooked up to a throttle control. The engine sounds like it wants to start but.. it dsnt. If it’s not getting a spark what do you think the issue would be?

Ah so many questions!! When was the last time the motor was run? Give us some history of the motor, because we're starting from scratch here.

Can you not pull start the motor because you can't pull it fast enough?

Troubleshooting a 'no spark' condition usually starts with checking the tether circuit. That's assuming you've already VERIFIED that there is actually a "no spark" situation... have you actually pulled the plugs and verified that?? (and if so, how did you do it?)

I bought it about two years ago. It’s really hard to pull start it.. A lot of friction. Had a mechanic come because it wasn’t starting, he said he fixed something then handed me the old rectifier said buy a new one and it will work. I had another mechanic come out didn’t know **** but said I wonder if it’s not getting a spark. Idk lost

As km said, VERIFY spark, then VERIFY fuel (which is a more common issue). The rectifier/regulator has nothing to do with starting.
