Rectifier from 4amp vs 12amp evinrude? can I use either?

Hi, I have a few 40HP ourboards. The ones with powertrim all have the large square rectifier, and the ones with tilt assist 4amp systems have the circular one.

Would it be ok for me to replace the square one with the circular one on the 12amp power trim system or would these be an issue?

I am pretty sure they both do the same thing...

Could someone please help me out.

Thanks

Yes, they both do the same thing.

But, if you use the 4 amp in place of a 12 amp rectifier, you just made an expensive fuse when the battery is getting a heavy charge from the stator, like when the power trim is used.

Going with a 12 instead of a 4 is OK, but not the other way.

So basically you are saying you cannot use the circular rectifier on a motor with power trim? is that correct?

Thanks

also 1 more question:

The circular one: 3.5v on all connections and zero in reverse

The square one is 3.5 but one of them is like 6.5v, does that mean its damaged or is that still within spec?

Thank you

Yes. It's the current 4 vs 12 amps, that will blow out the 4 amp rectifier in a 12 amp system.

and you do not know anything about the above question relating to:

The square one is 3.5 but one of them is like 6.5v, does that mean its damaged or is that still within spec?

does that mean its bad?

I don't know what or how you are measuring. Voltage output should be more than 12 volts.

I am measuring ohms between the different charging cables.

From what i read, measuring 1 direction they should be 0, and the other, they should be consistent on all wires to red.

Hi, 1 more question. If I take the flywheel off a 4AMP motor and place it on the 12AMP would this be ok? I would use the new regulator from the 4AMP engine.

are there any other parts I would need to change to make this work?

Thanks
