I have a 2002 40hp Merc 3 cyl. 2 stroke which has "Lightning XR" written on the engine cowl. It's a bones basic pre-mix tiller steer. I've been told that whilst this is a Japanese model, it's basically the same as an American model just minus a few add ons (eg: oil injection etc.) to keep them cheap and competitive with the Yamaha CV series. Recently I bought a charge kit. I took off a cover on the right side of the motor, below and aft of the flywheel and found 2 wires not in use which I assume are waiting for my rectifier, which has a hole through the middle of it. Where would this be mounted if installed from the factory? Should there already be an unused hole waiting for it and where would it be?

Re: Rectifier block mounting

OK. Just had a look and this is the full wiring-
Black, Orange, Blue with White stripe, White with Black, White with Red, White with Green all continuing on into a box with a Mitsubishi logo stamped on it.
The 2 just hanging are a straight White and a straight Yellow.
There's also a straight Brown coming back from the kill switch to a ground point behind the cover.
