Watched my neighbor pull a John Deere 4020 (field tractor) out of a hole / ditch this evening with his 3/4 ton pickup using a snatch strap. I was a total skeptic that a pickup was ever going to budge the tractor until I seen it pull it out. Yup, going to add it to the list of possible xmas presents I'd like.

The best part is it's hard to damage a vehicle w the stretchy straps, unlike an unforgiving chain, when hooked to the right pull point. I've seen many 4wds yanked out of nasty mudholes w snatch straps. It might take more than one yank, but thats part of the fun!! you can also add strong rope, strap or chain to reach farther than the strap length, just lay something heavy on the line, a big canvas tarp works well, and stand back incase something breaks, as w any recovery.

Yup, made a killing with them in high school and a bronco II pulling out MUCH bigger stuck trucks in the mud and at the beach.

Never ever use a chain with a snatch strap, if it comes loose it's going thru a back window at least.

Also don't use a snatch strap with metal hooks on the ends. I don't know if they even make those anymore, but they used to and I've seen some impressive damage done when the attachment point on one of the vehicles lets go.

snatch strap???
Is that the flat web belt 4-6 inch wide.

For removing stuck vehicles I keep about 60 feet of 1 inch power braid in the truck, almost has that bungee effect, not the hard snap of a chain.

I carry a strap with clevis's when I'm plowing snow. One, just incase I get stuck, and two, incase I come across someone else that needs help......

A strap with hooks is a tow strap. For dragging another vehicle down the road.
A strap with strap loops (no metal) are snatch straps.

They're a requirement for most organized 4wd runs. I keep three 25' straps with me on the trail.
