I am going to reconfigure my battries this weekend. Currently I have two banks each with an identical group 29 battery on it. Bank1 is meant for starting and bank2 is meant for house (bank2 has some things hooked up to it which bypass the off position on the 1-2-all-off switch such as the bilge pumps and C0 detector)

I plan on removing the terminals from the battery on bank1 then adding that battery to bank2 by just conencting red to red and black to black Sanity check: that will be 12 volts right?

Then for bank1 I was just going to add in a walmart everstart maxx 29 marine battery listed below
EverStart Maxx Group Size 29 Marine Battery: Automotive : Walmart.com

Any thoughts? Any issues with the plan that anyone sees?

Thanks,

Re: Reconfigure batteries

You have just defeated the purpose of separating house and engine circuits since you now have the equivalent of one very large battery. Placing two batteries in parallel does still provide 12 volts but provides zero isolation.

The battery being moved from bank1 to bank2 was going to be replaced with the walmart battery listed above. have 2 batteries on bank2 for house stuff and one on bank1 for starting.

If this is what you have now.

And you are wanting to do this.

After.jpg

No problem at all.

It will act just like your original system, just twice as long you can run the house bank.
