Recommendations for Electronic ignitions

Any recommendations for the above? My 'new' 302 has a set a late OEM Autolite Platimum plugs with a huge gap (probably .054) and I don't think my Pertronix II with 40K volt coil will drive them. I'd like to use them because they are basically 100k mile plugs, at least in an late model auto with a high output ignition.<br /><br />Also I would want something that would work with a tachometer. I used to run an old CD ignition (Delta Mk 10) but my replacement tach would not work with it. Maybe I'd need to get a different tach. I don't like my current one anyway. It sits at about 2000 rpm with the key off. It does seem to register correctly when the engine is running, however.

Boomyal,<br />Ive bought a Mallory 5048201 (electronic) distributor for my 305 chevy project.<br />Dont know about the tacho yet. Have not crossed that bridge yet.<br />I know that I can use a 5 or 9 amp ballasted coil.<br />You can always close up your plug gap to compensate for a lower spark output if you have to rather than throw away those good plugs.<br /> <br />Peter

Boomyal,<br />Mallory distributors all use their excellent Unilite pickup system. I'm pretty sure there's no difference between street and marine units.<br /><br />So, you could use a Mallory with a higher voltage coil to get the most out of that Ford.<br /><br />But the USCG will not approve.
