I really want to buy a side-scan sonar unit to look for items lost in my local water ways.
With hundreds of options, and huge price ranges, I'm not sure what to get.
The details on the website assume you know what you are doing, which I don't.
I don't know what a CHIRP is, and I don't know if I want ClearVü or SideVü, nor do I know what those are.
Do I want a portable unit? Don't care, but I would like a larger sun visible screen.
Being able to mark a waypoint for return recovery would be a plus.
Being able to download or save the images for computer viewing would be a huge benefit as well.

Anyone know what I should get?

About anything on the market will have the functionality you describe.

What separates the men from the boys, and $$$$$ is performance. This is where the dollar signs start mounting

Let's start with your expectation from a performance standpoint.
You realize lot of what you "see" (in advertising) isn't what you get in real life, right?

You have limitations/performance degradation related to:
Depth?
Speed?
Water Conditions?
Screen size?

What is your price point? Pretty easy to spend $2-3K on a unit with decent resolution
