Recoil Starter Removal on 2000 Johnson 9.9

Trying to remove the recoil starter on my 2000 Johnson 9.9 MN J10RSSA. Removed the 3 bolts, the easy part, but not sure how to remove the link lockout # 10 from the cam starter lockout # 22 which connects to the housing # 4 on the Johnson / Evinrude parts schematic. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you but not clear as all new to me. Does the link lockout just pull out from inside the cam starter lockout.

I have a 2001 15HP, which I believe is the same engine. There is a plastic pin that runs through the lockout, you can squeeze the end and pull out the pin(see picture). BE CAREFUL, there is a spring that may fly out. Don't ask how I know . From what I read you can run the engine without it , but it is a safety device.
