Hi,
I just got my 9.9 Johnson Model # 10R76H Serial # E4387885 back from the repair shop. I had a carb. problem, but know I have a recoil problem. Did they have to pull the recoil to put a kit in the carb.? The recoil doesen't work prperly now. If I loosen the shoulder bolt that holds the recoil on it recoils fine, but then the recoil is loose. When the recoil is tightened again it doesn't recoil all the way back in. About 6-8" short. Do you think something was left out that makes this do this,or do I need a new recoil?

Can ya help me?

Jeffre

Re: Recoil on 9.9 Johnson

Howdy, Jeffre.

You need a manual if you are going to work on your engine. It will pay for itself several times over.

You need to increase the preload on your recoil spring about 2 turns.

Good luck. :)

Re: Recoil on 9.9 Johnson

Hey JB,
Thanks for the reply. I really don't plan of working on this myself, I just wanted some input as to why the recoil wasn't working after putting a carb kit in, so when I talk to the guy about it I will have some info about what has happened or what might need to be done. Increaseing the preload sounds good to me.

Thanks again,

Jeffre

shoafin-sailor,
Thanks for the reply. I needed that info.

Jeffre
