I'm in the process of replacing the Mercruiser 485 in my boat.
I plan on buying a rebuilt long block, my two choices so far for a company is Jasper or Recon.
Has anyone here had any dealing (good/bad) with either company?
Both companies are close in price. The money isn't really an issue I don't wan't to have to pull a bad engine mid-season.

Any comments on who has the better track record??

Eric

Re: Rebuilt Engine

The guy selling the Recon is local, the Jasper engine would come from BoatUS.

Eric

Re: Rebuilt Engine

Theres alot to be said for doing business locally. I was lucky and was able to get my engine locally. Does the local engine come from a parts house or local machine shop?? If so, are they reputable and what warranty is on the assembly?

Re: Rebuilt Engine

I tend to go local but I got mixed reviews on this guy. I was warned that Recon had a 28% failure rate within 2 hours 2 years back, not sure if they fixed the problem. I was ready to hand this guy a check at the boat show for the $2200. But came home to mull things over. Thats when I got the "bad news" about the company he gets his long blocks from.

Eric
