we went through the break in period last year so now we have to change the oil to get the break in oil out. what oil should we use now. should i still put zinc in the oil?

A lot of guys use shell rotella T4 15w-40. Has enough zinc for flat tappets. I have had good luck with it in my boat and older (60's) flat tappet cam cars

yes, unless you changed the cam to a roller cam. you need zinc in the oil. either buy oil with zinc in it, or add zinc to oil that doesnt come with zinc

Ill second the Rotella, or other "diesel" oils in 15W40. Not only do they have all the vitamins and minerals that the older motors need, they are relatively cheap to boot.
