Would it be feasible to just rebuild a motor side wiring harness? As far as I can see it would just involve new wire and pin connectors. Or are those pin connections molded into the plug?

What motor ?----Nothing to stop you from using a terminal strip instead of a convenient plug in method.

As far as I know, the connectors are molded into the plug. But I confess I've never tried to remove them.

they sell replacement motor harnesses for about the same amount of money as all the proper marine wiring would cost.

I built my engine wiring harness using the factory pin type connectors and connector housings for the ends of each wire. And since I couldn't find the typical Johnson round connector to connect to the control harness, I bought a male and female Bendix type circular connector and am using them. They are sealed and resist corrosion even better then the Johnson factory types.
