I'm really thinking about rebuilding my motor before damage happens to the block. Here is what I got 2 of the pistons have a small chip missing on the top edge over rings found by a bore scope.I already have a complete OEM gasket set and am worried about those chips, like was it from carbon behind the ring or what. Now I've never rebuilt an outboard but have done other 2 strkes but only 2 cyl's. With a big 6 there is alot more.Last year when I purchased this beast I had intake gasket issues and made some of them out of gasket paper.I have checked on having it done at the shop but can't afford that.

Buy an OMC factory service manual and you should be okay. Then get back to us for any questions.

Sounds like you need to tear it completely down in order to really see what is going on. You can replace just two of the pistons, as long as they are factory replacements- they will work.
