i finaly got my 87 block back bored to 88 std big bore.

the machine shop told me it was as good as an 88 block now in fact he said that they now measure the same as the 88 sleeve.
he also checked the ports hight he said al is in spec now.
he did also decked the heads as he told me they where pretty warped.
next thing is putting it all together.

i know the later looper v4s dont have that waterflow valve that kicks in at a surtain rpm range.
should i leave it alone and keep it or can i convert this to a better system.

thanks

Are you sure you want to use the small bore heads on a big bore motor? That's fine if you do but you'll need to run 93 octane. If they cut the heads you may have to run even higher octane.

As for the water system, I'd use the 93 & newer style. Get rid of that hose mess. Just look at a parts diagram and get the t-stat covers & springs. You'll discard the rubber gasket on your vernatherms and use a regular gasket. Make sure you use the cap & spring from the same year.

Not sure at all. Joe Reeves wrote here once to leave it alone.

I bought all the parts to convert to the later system because the high idle temperature was new to me. The motor is still running like a top, so the conversion never happened.

I like the simplicity of the later system and I think that it would be better in the salt water: if those little openings in the original cover gaskets get clogged, the 1988 system will not work.

In either system those black rubber seats [part 320880] at the back are a problem. There was a Service Bulletin about replacing the seats. I will see if I can find a copy, or maybe someone here can look it up.

The model that I have is the J140TXCCM. It is the best motor that I have ever had, so I treat it like a baby.

Are you going to keep that MSN Groups site up? If you do, I'd like to use it for docs and pictures from time to time.

im not wurried about that.
he did cut the heads i dont know how much came off i will ask him before running the motor.

this motor will be used in the salty pond.

You need the thermostats #434137 (2)
Springs # 336765 (2)
Covers # 333967 (2)
Cover gasket # 329830 (2)

If seats are OK - , otherwise 320880. If needed it is a lot easier with the cylinder heads off.

If you run into a problem with those heads, let me know.
