Kind of semi-off topic... :)

I have a 5 x 8 trailer I picked up and I want to use it to haul my 2 ATV's. The deck of the trailer is 3/4 plywood that is in dire need of replacement (the top layer is "shedding" and falling apart ... but is still sound) and I am looking for suggestions on what to use. The trailer is rated at 2000 and the two atv's together add up to 1250 loaded with gear.

There is an existing steel frame (with stake pockets) around the outside.

Should I go with plywood? Steel sheeting? I have not found a source of aluminum decking close to home.

An alterantive is to seal the plywood and just cover it with a sheet of 3/8.

The atv's will be side loaded and carried side by side (and very close together due to the 8' length).

It's a project that is going to take lights, tires, bearings and I will also need to build removable side ramps.

Bob

bob

i used a sheet of 3/4 pressure treated when i convereted my 16'tilt bed boat trailer to a hauler

it was strong enough to use as the ramp for a lawn tractor it realy depends on how well the frame supports it

it was outside with no care for 10 years whe i got rid of it and still good

i buy a lot of stainless and aluminum diamond plate for work and its REALLY big bucks and not at all stiff unless you get it very thick and then it s really HEAVY

tommays

My ATV trailer had a plywood deck also. I was going to re-deck with expanded metal, but sold it before I got around to it. The plywood lasted for a long time.

Okay it's finished.
New PT 3/4" plywood
New tires & wheels, hubs, bearings, bearing buddies, new lights and wiring (all connections soldered), stripped frame and painted entire frame, custom loading ramps. A nice labor of love and it's a failure!! When I load both ATV's on it the tires contact the frame. I know I can increase the spring capacity but I have decided against it.

So.... it is going to be put up for sale and I am planning on purchasing a Triton Aluminum dual ATV trailer. :D
