Rebuild Stringer SelecTrim motor mount?

I think the rubber inside my SelecTrim front motor mount on my OMC 400 is shot, but it's an obsolete part now. Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these mounts and come up with a solution to replace the rubber? Are there any alternative solutions or companies that will make custom replacement bushings, etc.? Am I doomed to buy a whole new SelecTrim unit off eBay just to replace the rubber? The rest of the unit works perfectly but the engine rattles like crazy at low idle due to the shot mount rubber.

No, I mean the "Rubber Mount Assembly" (3853789 RUBBER MOUNT ASSEMBLY). Item #15 on that drawing.

Re: Rebuild Stringer SelecTrim motor mount?

I once found a manufacturer name on one of the rubber pucks at the rear and front mounts of a stringer V6 and called the company in Hamilton, ON whose name I cannot recall but it was molded into the rubber. They said they could supply them, but communication was difficult as they didn't usually sell to the public and I wasn't 100% sure they would send me the right thing...(was dealing by fax then).but they had a huge catalog of industrial mounts of any shape and description you could think of. Probably cheaper to go to ebay though, or put a wanted ad locally.

The idea of molding my own is kind of interesting. I'll have to tear it apart this fall when I put the boat away for the winter. Maybe I'll come up with something to make it work.

Howard, if you happen to think of the manufacturer before I get this thing apart, please let me know. All I can find on eBay is complete assemblies that run $175-$200 or more which I don't want to spend if I don't have to especially when it's anybody's guess what condition the eBay item will be in.

to get you buy for the rest of the year, pick up a few hockey pucks, drill a hole in the middle, then carve the od to what you need.

I still have some pieces of tubular polyurethane here too from when the rear suspension on my Cadillac Deville went and I made my own bushings.

I have some red and some black that I bought off eBay - 1 piece is 90A and I forget the hardness of the other piece - if you know the dimensions you need I can measure.

maybe one of your neighbour's kids skateboard wheel will go missing :)
