Boat has twin 200 HP yamaha engines. One has head gasket failure. Debating wether or not it is worthwhile rebuilding the motors or repowering the boat. (25ft Grady). A repower is $25 000.00 a rebuild is around $7000.00. I am told should be able to get another 1000 hours on the rebuild. Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

In my experience, if its just a head gasket problem just get new gaskets and change them out. Its not a hard task at all and you'll save yourself a bunch of money. In the other hand, it would be wise to check everything, compression being one of the most important things to check. If everything else in good working order my suggestion is to just change the gaskets, you dont even have to get the powerhead of the boat. You can change them right on there. I know, i have done it on mine before :)

Thanks for the reply Asainz320. Debating what to do as a repower is a big step in terms of cost. I am not sure about the vintage of those motors. They seem to be in really good shape but they are still 20 years old.
