Rebuild or buy used

Hi All,

My 2000 Yamaha 200 had a bad number 6 cylinder. It's showing less than 50psi on #6 and the rest is over 100. I was planning to rebuild it but ran across a used 2004 Yamaha 300 HPDI Outboard with under 300 hours on it for under 6k. He said he'd give a 30 day money back warranty. The rebuilding would have a year. Any thoughts? I know nothing about outboards but learning.

Another thing, I have an angler 220 and not up on whether or not a 300 would work on it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Well I suggest you take it in to someone and at least see why you lost compression. Could be a cheap fix like reseal on a head. Good luck getting advise on jumping 100hp here They will just let you know the boat will just sink, they could be right a 300 is a hoss

A professional can do a worse case piston and ring swap for way under 6k. If you are looking for permission to buy bigger well normally we just tell the wifes it is bad and need new

300 might be too much for a 22 Angler.

Buying a used older 300? Myself no.
Go with the rebuild and the year.
Try to figure out why it went bad?
