Hi!

I have been searching high and low for a rebuild kit that would cover the valves, gaskets and diaphgram for my otherwise sound pump.

Is there any about or what do you think, can I get the parts from some car parts shops?

(part number for the pump is: B-47585)

I know that it's easy to just buy a new one but since I'm restoring my boat it would be nice to use exact parts that are rebuilt.

Got a pic of the pump?

See a brand new one on ebay thats got to be 20-30 years old. Don't know if it's the one you want. Was cheap and brand new.

Unfortunately can't get a pic uphere at the moment but it's the basic pump that is used in merc 3.0 L (181) 140hp engine from 1976.

Sierra has replacement pumps but do I really need to buy a new one since the one I have is otherwise alright, except for the inner parts.

I believe that it's this one:

There's just not a lot of rebuild kits for fuel pumps any more these days....

I bought a new fuel pump for my 454 recently for about $60. Autozone had it. Schucks also had it. (or could get it) Napa too.

Schucks matched the Autozone price and ordered it for me. It's just wasn'tworth rebuilding one for $60.

because of liability issues you don't see alot of rebuild kits for fuel pumps for i/o's. Most mechanics won't rebuilt a sterdrive fuel pump.

Yeah, they're just not worth rebuilding anymore. The shipping, handling and box cost more than the actual rebuild kit!! They don't make money on rebuild kits so they'd rather sell the whole pump.

My fuel pump was a Carter 60932. That's what the OEM pump was. I started doing a little research and found that the pump is now made by AIRTEX

In fact, Airtex makes the mechanical fuel pumps for just about all the OEMs now. Their catalog shows automotive and marine applications. Autozone, Schucks, Napa can usually order Airtex pumps.

I actually called the Airtex (because I didn't believe the guy at Autozone when he said he could get the OEM replacement marine pump for my 454)........ The guy at Airtex told me that they supply pumps to Mercury and whole lotta other Marine OEMs.

If I have it to do over again, I'll probably install an electric fuel pump (for carbureted applications) Airtex has an electric marine pump that would be perfect. (if anyone decides to do that just be sure you connect it using an oil pressure switch that will disable it when the engine is not running etc.) Everything in the installation must be IAW USCG regulations etc.

Cheers,

Rick
